課程概述

Course description and course objectives
This course will lead students to study the works of two twentieth-century American women poets, Elizabeth Bishop (1911-1979) and Sylvia Plath (1932-1963), from feminist and psychoanalytic perspectives. The course comprises three parts: (1)
Sigmund Freud’s and Jacques Lacan’s theories of sexuation and its influence on subjectivity and language; (2) Bishop’s “not-whole” perspective and her poetics of restraint; (3) Plath’s confessional strategy and her encounter with the limit of knowledge, desire, and life.
